La casaThe home

Es un ático de tres dormitorios en la última planta. Lo que lo hace distinto está fuera: 121 m² de terraza a lo largo de toda la casa, con el salón y el dormitorio principal abiertos a ella.

Delante, el Monte de El Pardo y la Sierra de Guadarrama. Detrás, un barrio con lo de cada día cerca. La casa vive entre las dos cosas, y de ahí su nombre.

La terraza da para varias estancias: una mesa larga bajo los olivos, un porche junto a la fachada para las tardes de sombra, un fuego para las noches de otoño y la zona de barbacoa. Tiene luz y enchufe.

A three-bedroom penthouse on the top floor. What sets it apart is outside: 121 m² of terrace along the whole length of the home, with the living room and the main bedroom open onto it.

In front, Monte de El Pardo and the Sierra de Guadarrama. Behind, a neighbourhood with everyday life close by. The home lives between the two, hence its name.

The terrace works as several rooms: a long table under the olive trees, a porch along the façade for shaded afternoons, a fire for autumn evenings and a barbecue area. It has light and power.

Dónde estáWhere it is

La Marazuela es un barrio nuevo de Las Rozas de Madrid, al noroeste de la capital, a unos 18 kilómetros del centro. Casas bajas, calles anchas y mucho cielo. Al lado hay un centro de salud, un complejo deportivo y cultural con piscina y campo de hockey, y un pequeño centro comercial con supermercado, farmacia y restaurantes. La estación de Cercanías de Las Rozas queda a un paso, con trenes a Madrid.

Enfrente, el Monte de El Pardo: unas 16.000 hectáreas de encinar, uno de los bosques mediterráneos mejor conservados que tiene una capital europea a la puerta. Fue cazadero de los reyes de Castilla desde la Edad Media; Goya pintó para su palacio los cartones de tapices. Hoy viven allí ciervos y gamos, y en otoño, al atardecer, se oye la berrea.

Al fondo, la Sierra de Guadarrama, parque nacional desde 2013, que en invierno amanece nevada. Es la vista de la terraza.

La Marazuela is a new neighbourhood of Las Rozas de Madrid, northwest of the capital and about 18 kilometres from the centre. Low houses, wide streets and a lot of sky. Next door are a health centre, a sports and cultural complex with a pool and a hockey pitch, and a small shopping centre with a supermarket, a pharmacy and restaurants. The Las Rozas commuter station is a short walk away, with trains into Madrid.

Across the way, Monte de El Pardo: some 16,000 hectares of holm oak, one of the best-preserved Mediterranean forests any European capital has on its doorstep. It was the hunting ground of the kings of Castile from the Middle Ages; Goya painted his tapestry cartoons for its palace. Red deer and fallow deer live there today, and in autumn, at dusk, you can hear the rut.

Beyond, the Sierra de Guadarrama, a national park since 2013, which wakes up white in winter. It is the view from the terrace.
